Barrett's Privateers are a private outfit led by Syd Barrett. They sail the sloop Salember's Skean out of Westgate.
During the Goblin War, the company sailed under a letter of marque from House Longbrooke authorizing the robbing of Sembian merchant vessels and requiring the defense of Cormyr from pirates of the Dragon Coast.
While chasing a Sembian ship far around the eastern edge of Prespur, the ship came upon a pirate warship led by Black Bart. All three ships opened fire and were pitched in battle. The Salember's Skean main sail was cracked and several sailors were lost overboard. The privateers turned the ship in retreat and the pirates took the merchant ship.
Among the sailors lost was James Hind, a young recruit from Westgate. Syd held a memorial service at sea in respect of the dead, for even if the sea did not claim them, Black Bart took no prisoners.
