Eilistraee's Moonblade
eilistraees_moonblade.jpg

This brilliant silver blade is as tall as a drow elf and reflects the moonlight with a soft azure radiance. Engraved in elven script from guard to tip and fitted with moonstones, when commanded it becomes wreathed in luminous blue flames.

This silver frost bastard sword +2, known as ithildin in elven, was crafted by clerics of Eilistraee within the last two centuries, to be rewarded to the participant in the High Hunt who felled the clergy’s quarry in that event, and to be handed off at subsequent High Hunts to the next deserving participant. Though incomparable to the antiquated moonblades possessed by the great houses of the elven kingdoms of old, the blade is a formidable weapon in its own right.

When the Silver Company participated in the High Hunt in the Silver Marches, they would become the first non-drow to wield the sword, but none but the drow swordmage Respen Tuin has wielded it.

This brilliant silver blade is as tall as a drow elf and reflects the moonlight with a soft azure radiance. Engraved in elven script from guard to tip and fitted with moonstones, when commanded it becomes wreathed in luminous blue flames.

This +1 alchemical silver frost bastard sword was crafted by clerics of Eilistraee within the last two centuries or so, to be rewarded to the participant in the High Hunt who felled the clergy’s quarry in that event, and to be handed off at subsequent High Hunts to the next deserving participant. Though incomparable to the antiquated moonblades possessed by the great houses of the elven kingdoms of old, the blade is a formidable weapon in its own right.

Once per day upon the user’s command, the brilliant blue flames will leap from the blade dealing 2d6+8 cold damage to any one target within 30 ft. No attack roll is required and this effect allows no save, but spell resistance applies as normal. The moonblade loses its frost property until the next night, after moonrise. During this time, it continues to function as a +1 alchemical silver bastard sword. If used against a lycanthrope, the moonblade’s unique effect deals 4d6+8 cold damage instead.

Lore: Despite the blessing of the Dark Maiden, this sword has been lost three times in its past, and the next season’s High Hunt would instead become a quest to recover the lost or stolen sword. (Knowledge [religion] DC 15)

Lore: True moonblades were heirlooms inherited by the heads of the great elven houses of realms such as Eaerlann and Cormanthyr. With the destruction of these realms, most moonblades are lost to time, but a few remain, buried in places such as Myth Drannor, Evereska, and possibly even in the possession of a few of the elves of Evermeet.
