The High Heralds (often just "the Heralds") are keepers of lore, genealogy, and heraldry throughout Faerûn. Originally a part of the good-aligned Harpers, they split from that group over concerns of impartiality but remain close allies, often exchanging recorded lore for secrets obtained by Harper field agents. Keeping with their role as keepers of lore, the Heralds maintain one of the largest libraries in Toril, the Herald's Holdfast.
The ruling body of the Heralds, known also as the High Heralds, are a council of five sages who hold the final say on official Herald business. These High Heralds hold one of five core titles: Unicorn, Old Night, Black Visor, Crescentcoat, and Red Dragon; as well as two minor leadership positions, styled Green Shield and Gauntlet.
