Character Sheet

Sutherland, formerly Inquisitor Sutherland, was one of the few remaining members of the Order of Inquisitors, the Imperial organization formed in the waning days of the Clone Wars to hunt the remaining Jedi to extinction. His personal quest for power and his obsession with the Cantina Turner and the Pantano holocrons resulted in his defeat in the climax of Episode LXIX.

Disavowed by the Empire, the Dark Side acolyte Sutherland is preparing for his upcoming galactic comeback tour with a training montage doing flips through the swamps of Pantano and running the stairs of the Temple of Darkness.

History

Despite his father's extremely public career, little is known about Sutherland's history. He was born on a Star Destroyer, he's Force-sensitive, he was never part of the Jedi, and he claims to answer only to Darth Vader. As the Imperial Inquisitors began to outlive their Jedi-hunting purpose, Sutherland leveraged his position (and lineage) into a leadership role in the Imperial Navy. Though he held no naval rank, he commanded the Imperial light cruiser Black Prince, a squadron of TIE Interceptors, a platoon of Death Troopers, and a company of Stormtroopers.

Believing Luke Skywalker to be hiding on Pantano after of visions of the young Jedi doing handstands in a swamp and discovering a footnote in the remains of the Jedi Archives on Coruscant, it was at his suggestion that his father blockaded the Pantan system and Episode LXIX began. After the search for the Son of Skywalker proved to be fruitless, Sutherland instead began a personal quest to uncover the history of the Jedi and Sith. Once he collected the Jedi Holocron from the Temple of Light, which quickly developed his fledgling Force abilities, he became obsessed with finding that artifact's twin, the Sith Holocron from the Temple of Darkness to complete his Dark Side training.

Following the crew of the Cantina Turner into the Temple of Darkness, the Empire's ground forces were beaten back and our heroes escaped with their lives and the holocron. A singularly-focused Sutherland became obsessed with hunting down the Cantina Turner, ordering the Black Prince to ignore the Empire's impending defeat at the Battle of Pantano to pursue them, culminating in a dogfight in the wreckage of the Star Destroyer Centurion. Sutherland was defeated, now losing both holocrons to the crew of the Cantina Turner, before crash-landing on Pantano's surface.

Recent developments

Sutherland is missing in the swamps of Pantano, falsely believed to be killed in action by the Empire at large. Testimony given by the Black Prince's captain, Captain Cushing led to a very brief internal investigation which posthumously stripped Sutherland of his Imperial Naval powers, and ostensibly any authority as an Inquisitor as well, though secretive orders don't really make statements on-record nor any public decrees. It is unclear if the remaining Inquisitors (or even Darth Vader himself) are aware of the twin holocrons of Pantano, the Cantina Turner, or Sutherland's continued survival, but that sounds like just the kind of Act II reveal that Episode CLXXXVII needs.

Personality and description

Sutherland can be brooding and secretive, typical of a Dark Side Force-sensitive. Imperial officers accompanying Delta Base's Leftenant Scripes to the Pantano Casino once described him as "super intense, and super weird." They also described his relationship with the Jedi Holocron as "staring blankly into nothing," and "alone, naked, jerking off to a blue cube."

Sutherland previously piloted a TIE Advanced superiority starfighter with some skill, though he was outgunned and his fighter was shot down by the Cantina Turner. He wields Darth Lundgren's (red) lightsaber and carries an overcharged DL-44 heavy blaster pistol. During the Pantano campaign, he dressed in heavy laminate armor reminiscent of Darth Vader, but has since replaced the cape with a tattered gray cloak befitting an outcast and reminiscent of Pantano's Dark Side cultists.

Behind the scenes

Sutherland's namesake is Kiefer Sutherland (and the Episode LXIX finale revealed his first name is Kiefer, as well), because he was originally conceived as some sort of Jack Bauer: Jedi Hunter. Thanks to all the Jedi mysticism and also to Adam Driver's high-waisted pants in The Last Jedi, he's since picked up a lot of Sting's mannerisms (like doing nude yoga) as well. An early, tertiary inspiration to round him out was Jude Law, in case Leftenant Scripes didn't gain traction, but he'll likely return in Episode CLXXXVII as well. Sutherland's outcast storyline will take additional inspiration from sources like the A-Team and the Bourne series.

Game statistics

If you think he has final boss vibes, you are not mistaken, he just needs to learn more Force powers before he can beat Jim.
