Obligation

Obligation (Edge of the Empire), Duty (Age of Rebellion), and Morality (Force and Destiny) help to shape your character's motivation. Starting motivation, particularly represents your character's background, but over time those motivations may ebb and flow and new obligations may arise. After that initial call to adventure, Obligation is primarily a mechanic to force your character to choose between advancing the main storyline or working to deal with personal matters before they get out of hand.
