The Felucian is an independent space station casino in the Falleen system in the Mid Rim. It is a popular destination for pirates and smugglers because of its easy access via the Corellian Run hyperlane and lack of Imperial oversight.

Description

The Felucian is a private orbital ring space station in the Falleen system that operates as an independent hotel and casino. It shares a decent portion of its design with the defunct Trade Federation Lucrehulk-class battleships and droid control ships, consisting of a three-kilometer ring built around a spherical central core, and docking bays on either side of the "missing piece." The outer ring consists of 255 public floors providing hospitality services (docking, lodging, dining, shopping, etc.) but the quality and amenities improve wildly as one ascends the Felucian, from economy-class service on the lower decks to luxury accommodations on the top decks.

The station's central core houses the casino, which is accessible via a series of walkways from the hospitality ring. The Felucian casino is loud and bright at all hours, adorned with phosphorescent mushrooms and overgrown jungle flora true to its name. The main gaming hall is a single massive room built over almost 200 open floors of mezzanines connected by turbolift (and some access/emergency staircases), boasting a wide variety of games to appeal to gamblers of any income or skill level, from penny slots to invitation-only sabacc tournaments.

The security offices and barracks are also based in the central core, to protect the vault from thieves and the support systems from sabotage. The mostly-droid security force is active continuously and can be reached at any time, day or night—both of which are simulated on the hospitality levels. There is no day/night distinction in the casino, which is by design.

History

The Felucian was established fifteen years before the Battle of Yavin by Muun expats who rejected the Empire's continued intrusion into the InterGalactic Banking Clan, citing their desire to control their own money (and therefore destiny). It is named for the jungle planet Felucia, where its founders had dug in to make their last stand, only to be spared by the execution of Order 66 and the end of the Clone Wars.

The location of the Neimoidian-designed space station was chosen for its ease of access and its founders' hope that the Falleen would share their caution toward Imperial entanglements, having only joined the Empire (née Republic) a few years prior. So far, that belief has held true, and the Felucian has grown quickly, being especially popular among pirates, smugglers, and other scoundrels, with little negative impact other than an atypically large budget for security droids and a seedy reputation, but one it definitely deserves.

The Felucian's reputation is likely what has prevented the upper level's opulence from attracting the galactic elite, but the gaudiness and vacancy make it extremely appealing to crime lords, who lay down fat stacks of credits to rent entire floors for their retinue and bodyguards. For these reasons the Felucian is a common neutral meeting site between crime bosses, though it can be perceived to be slightly more convenient for the Falleen-led, Mustafar-based Black Sun crime syndicate, for whom it has a cultural familiarity, as the majority of the (non-droid) staff is Falleen.

Recent developments

The Cantina Turner is currently traveling to the Felucian to take delivery of high-output ion turbines and an illegal part that I'll share with everyone when Episode CLXXXVII begins.

Behind the scenes

The Felucian is phonetically similar to the Venetian, a casino in Las Vegas, though I'm definitely feeling a vibe somewhere between Old Vegas and Atlantic City. The space station has a decent amount in common with The Wheel, which is entirely coincidental (though my kid has been watching a lot of Lego Star Wars), but I didn't want to use the Wheel in case I decide to blow it up. You know, since this game is canon and everything.
