Wiki Standards

Below is a list of some standards and conventions we will observe on this page as often as possible.

All Pages

 1. In section headings, we will use Heading Level 1 (a single +). This is not Wikipedia—it will be title case.
 2. Subsequent headings will get progressively lower within a section.
 3. An effort must be made to use proper spelling and grammar. Obviously this is not a principal concern, but if you need a little help, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome have built-in spell-check. If you require stronger language support, Microsoft Word may be the program for you.
 4. All pages should be visually optimized for 1440 x 900 resolution, standard widescreen for most LCD monitors, including laptops. This will result in extra whitespace for larger resolutions, and some "stacking" (side-by-side div and image elements appearing above and beneath each other) for smaller resolutions (unless it has a browser-level native resolution, such as with the Apple iPhone and Sony PSP).

Referenced Pages

 1. If you are editing an article and create a new internal link to something that need not change within the scope of our campaign (gods, monsters, or the like) create a new page for it whose sole content is a redirect module to another site that contains that information, such as the Forgotten Realms Wiki or Wikipedia. The text is as follows: module Redirect destination="URL" where URL is replaced with the target destination. This will act as a placeholder until we need to make changes to the information listed to suit our campaign, at which point the redirect module will be removed.
 2. To edit a redirect module, find the URL of the page and append "/noredirect/true" to it.
 3. Existing pages will reflect this change retroactively, but the redirect module will simply be added to that page rather than replace the entire text.

Layout and include Pages

 1. Some items on a page, such as infoboxes and category templates, are not meant to be recreated, but are not important enough to be their own template page, and will be utilized via include tags. By using page variables {$variable} we can assign values at a single page level. Variables are separated by a single pipe character.
 2. Most layout and include pages can only be edited by Administrators and Moderators.

Character Pages

 1. On a character page, do not include any race/class/alignment links outside of the infobox include element.
 2. As for alignment, all individual alignments redirect to the alignment page. So use [Good] rather than [ Good] or [ Good].
 3. Editors with player characters in the current game should maintain their character's Game Statistics section and are held accountable for its accuracy1.
 4. With the arrival of 4th Edition, stat blocks have become a bit trickier. It is now appropriate to create a character page (e.g. Dustin-Brungart) that uses the include tag to maintain a stat block (e.g. include stats:Dustin-Brungart). Templates for both character pages (character) and stat blocks (4e-stat-block) have been added to the template drop-down (accessible on any new page).
 5. The Monster Manual 3 has brought its own new stat block. They are created just as the standard stat block, from the new page template drop-down.

Monster Pages

 1. When linking to monster pages, singular and plurals link to the same place, ie troll and trolls redirect to the same page, so feel free to use either. Future monster pages should also comply.

Cormyr and the Silver Marches

 1. The Cormyr page will be the new destination for all places in Cormyr except those that served directly as adventure sites, namely Eveningstar and Winterhaven. This will be done through anchoring, i.e. [cormyr#suzail]. However, don't include this redirect in the page you are editing, we have devoted pages to host the redirect so we can edit that page later without retrofitting all the links.
 2. The Silver Marches page will be the new destination for all places in the Silver Marches except those that served directly as adventure sites, namely Deadsnows, Quaervarr, and Silverymoon. This will be done through anchoring, i.e. [silver-marches#mithral-hall]. However, don't include this redirect in the page you are editing, we have devoted pages to host the redirect so we can edit that page later without retrofitting all the links.

For example: I'm creating a page about a dwarf from Citadel Felbarr, so I use [Citadel Felbarr] as my link. The Citadel Felbarr page, invisible to me, contains only module Redirect destination="http://dustin.wikidot.com/silver-marches#citadel-felbarr", which redirects me to the Silver Marches page.
